This installment in the @5min Video "series" is on Adding Audio Files to your Course Shell.
Description: I have to admit, this was a tough one to make. There are so many possible ways that audio can be added to a course shell and so many advantages/disadvantages to each method that it was tough to decide how to create these videos. This is further compounded by the recording abilities we will soon have with Panopto Focus as it will supersede some of what I suggest here. Panopto aside, audio in a course shell is still a very helpful tool, so - my approach here is two-fold: I want to address "Emergency" issues (weather, etc.) and ways that you can easily add audio over a longer time period, basically Podcast your content. Note: before you may ask...no, I probably wouldn't use email to send the mp3 file...the mp3 will often be too big to mail and even if it's small enough to send, some still may not receive it.
In eCollege I show how to:
- Add an audio file to an Announcement (if you can add to an Announcement you can add to a Content Item)
- Add the new Learning Objects toolset to add a Podcast
- Add a Podcast Machine podcast
In Sakai I show how to:
- Add an audio file to an Announcement (if you can add to an Announcement you can add to Site Info and if you add to an Announcement a Resource item will be created)
- Add an audio file using the new Lesson Builder tool (both embedded and as a link)
- Add an audio file to the Podcast tool
- Add a Podcast Machine podcast
Tools Shown:
eCollege (Announcements/Learning Objects (Podcast area)), Sakai (Announcements/Podcast area/Lesson Builder tool), Podcast Machine
Tools Used:
Camtasia to record, USB Headset and Audacity to record .mp3 file and the tools listed above in the Tools Shown area
