Professor Castells is an internationally recognized sociologist. He is the author of 21 books and editor and co-author of 15 additional books, as well as over 100 articles in academic journals. Many of his books, such as the trilogy, "The Information Age: Economy, Society, and Culture" (Blackwell, 1996 – 1998 and 2000 – 2003) and The internet Galaxy (Oxford University Press, 2001) have been translated into different languages. Professor Castells has received many recognitions world wide. He serves on committees in international organizations, including some in the European Union and the United Nations. Dr. Castells studied law and economics at the Universities of Barcelona and Paris. He received a doctorate in sociology and a doctorate in human sciences from the University of Paris-Sorbonne. Prior to joining USC, he taught in many universities, including the School for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences at the University of Paris and the University of California, Berkeley. He has also lectured at over 300 academic institutions in 43 countries.
