Degree Requirements

Admission to the Major

 

To become a Communication major, you must be first be admitted to the School of Communication and Information (SC&I). In order to apply to the major you must:

  1. Have completed Expository Writing or an equivalent course or placement with a grade of C or better,

  2. Have completed at least 15 credits at Rutgers, or at least 15 transfer credits to Rutgers, with at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average, and

  3. Have completed with a grade of C or better, Introduction to Communication and Information Processes (04:189:101).

If you do not earn a grade of C or better, you are allowed to re-take the course one time.

Undergraduate Major Requirements

The Communication major requires a total of 33 credits, including pre-major and interdisciplinary requirements.

Please be advised that Group Communication (192:356) added as Core Requirement option, effective Spring 2012.

*354, 355, 356, & 357 may be applied to the upper level course requirements, but at least one must be taken at the intermediate level to complete the core requirements.

At least two courses must be at the 400 level.  Independent study (491, 492) and Applied study (Tutors) (495) cannot be used to fulfill the 400 level requirement.   PR Management (409) has an additional requirement, PR Principles (365).
