Communication Major
Internships

The Department of Communication encourages all students to pursue an internship in their fields of interest. Undergraduates are able to develop skills, while they explore and gain experience in their chosen careers.

Students should regularly check the bulletin board outside of the main office to find internship postings. Additionally, students can get internship information from the Communication Undergraduate Internship Program home page.

Internship opportunities are regularly updated and allow interested students the opportunity to learn about the possible job openings in various organizations and companies.

The internship program includes:

  • A letter of evaluation from the intern's supervisor upon completion of the internship.
  • The intern must complete a minimum of 100 hours to complete a 3 credit internship.
  • Students are evaluated on how well they were able to integrate what they learned during their experience with the knowledge they learned from the coursework in the Communication Department.
  • Students are required to produce a portfolio about the internship experience.
  • All interns participate in on-line discussions and turn in their regular updates.

Many companies offer SC&I students internships in media outlet and public relation firms, including:

  • Merck
  • Fox Television
  • Lifetime Television
  • MTV
  • Radio Stations
  • Television Talk Shows
  • Publishing Companies
  • Among others...
