Description:
This course presents the fundamental concepts of management and organizational theory applied to the technological marketplace and organizational settings. It focuses on project management with emphasis on decision support systems and management information systems in corporate environments. The course considers information as an organizational resource and students will explore how information systems support corporate and organizational goals.
Synopsis:

Course Objectives

Students will be able to:

  • apply management theories and their application to planning and implementation of information technology systems and services within organizational structures;
  • identify key critical issues related to managerial decision making, team work, and participatory management in the context of a technological organization;
  • investigate the overall information needs of an organization and identify the role of information systems in providing solutions for workplace information problems;
  • design and use information systems, relational databases, and knowledge sharing processes;
  • complete a project in the context of information systems.
  • identify and apply evaluation methods commonly employed to measure the effectiveness of individuals, project teams, information systems and organization..
  • master basic organizational communication techniques including online messages, writing memos and other documents, meeting planning and implementation, conflict resolution, and public relations considerations;
  • understand and apply ethical principles in making decisions, manage staff, and serve a constituency.
