Advising
Students and prospective students are encouraged to seek out advising throughout your academic career. SC&I Student Services staff can provide you with basic information about our programs, admissions and degree requirements, and much more. Faculty in your degree program can offer you more in-depth advising about your plan of study, career goals, and selection of courses. Students in the Comm major can also contact Peer Advisers located in the main lobby.

Policies
Majors
Students interested in pursuing an undergraduate major within the School of Communication and Information must submit an application online at http://comminfo.rutgers.edu/ugadm. Applications are accepted three times per year: Fall admission cycle, Spring admission cycle, and Summer admission cycle. Students from SAS, SEBS, RBS, and MGS are currently eligible to apply to SC&I majors, however, students are advised to consult their appropriate dean to discuss their academic plans prior to applying. Students who are accepted will retain their affiliation with their primary unit (i.e. SAS, SEBS, RBS, MGS), however, they will complete their major requirements via the School of Communication and Information. Students will still be responsible for meeting the general education requirements as outlined by their primary unit. Students are not permitted to double major in SC&I undergraduate programs, however, they may double major in one SC&I major and choose another major from within their primary unit.
Posting Notices
SC&I student organizations, academic programs, and administration post notices of upcoming events and other items of interest on bulletin boards around the building and on the SC&I events calendar on this website. There is one bulletin board in the SC&I building available for use of non-SC&I groups; it is currently near the Student Lounge. Please note that it is the policy of the school that anyone who wants to put notices on doors, walls, or other venues outside of bulletin boards must receive permission from the deans office before posting; see Assistant Dean Kevin Ewell.
Computing and Technology
When you are admitted to Rutgers you receive instructions about how to create a student email address and computer account on the Eden system for yourself. Support for Eden and Rutgers-wide computing is provided
- via the web at http://www.nbcs.rutgers.edu/index.php,
- via the phone at 732-445-HELP (4357),
- via email at
, and
- in person at a variety of campus computer centers (details at http://nbweb.rutgers.edu/current-students.shtml).
The university runs computer labs around the various campuses for student use; check http://nbcs.rutgers.edu/ccf/main/
SC&I has several computing labs in our buildings that have desktop computers, sophisticated software, and printers. Hours are posted at the door to each lab and announced via the SC&I_ANNOUNCE listserv.
Placement Services
SC&I students seeking help with job placement and career development are urged to make an appointment with Rutgers Career Services for individual and group counseling, including help with resume writing, interview preparation, and search strategies. Students and other job seekers in the areas of communication, journalism, and library and information science will also find the SC&I Placement website to be helpful. The site includes a searchable database of hundreds of jobs and information about accessing the Rutgers/MonsterTrak database of jobs. The site also has links to dozens of other job posting and career advising sites. Employers looking to hire may post their jobs directly to the SC&I Placement site.
