Ben has taught as a PTL since 2002. He teaches New Media News Writing under the course title of Broadcast News Writing. His New Media News writing emphasizes methods for repurposing the broadcast style of writing into an Internet style. He has also developed the New Media News Pyramid, which replaces the traditional Inverted Pyramid of print. Ben is founder of MediaFriendly, Inc., which provides Web-based services for major media companies. MediaFriendly’s core product is a database of multicultural experts presented in a New Media format and instantly culled by journalists to their desktops. Ben has 21 years experience in the media industry including being on the launch-team at MSNBC.com where he was an Interactive Editor-Producer. At MSNBC.com he developed a programming model for integrating Internet and television content. Ben was an Executive Producer and Washington Editor at National Public Radio in Washington, D.C., an Assignment Editor at ABC News Network, a reporter in the CBS News Minority Reporter Training program, and an Assignment Editor at Fox News Network. He reported at WBTV Charlotte -- one of the first local television stations to computerize the newsroom and WBAL Baltimore. Ben has won nearly every major journalism award, including two prestigious Alfred I. du Pont-Columbia awards for reporting and producing. |
