MLIS Colloquium: Activist Librarianship and the Ethics of Library Neutrality

Activist Librarianship and the Ethics of Library Neutrality

In defense of user rights, librarians have sometimes been labeled radical militants, but more typically they adhere to the principles of nonjudgmental service, balanced collections, and political neutrality. Discussing some of the perennial debates that arise will be Jenna Freedman, Coordinator of Reference and Zine Librarian at Barnard, founder of Radical Reference, and Library Journal "Mover & Shaker; " and Valerie Bell, Assistant Director, Ocean County Library, ALA Councilor at Large.
