Todd Hunt, Professor Emeritus
Director, Retired Faculty Association of Rutgers University
Todd Hunt served for 30 years, first in the journalism school, then in the department of communication, the Master’s Program in Communication and Information Studies (MCIS) and eventually SC&I, where he was acting dean for one year before retiring in 1998.
He came to Rutgers in 1968 to teach news writing and editing courses, and he designed courses in magazine writing and critical reviewing for the mass media. He also designed and taught a course that included video production, filmmaking and still photography.
Next he heeded the demand for courses in public relations, designing a sequence of three courses plus internships. He co-authored two leading textbooks in public relations, as well as other mass communication texts. Most recently, the Rutgers Chapter of the PRSSA has been renamed the Todd Hunt Chapter of the Public Relations Students Society of America.
He was director of the MCIS program, and later he founded and became director of the school’s first distance education program, designing and teaching three Internet courses in public relations and organizational communication.
Throughout his academic career, he published articles in leading publications and professional journals. Following retirement, he wrote a career-building volume that became the first “electronic book” published online by SC&I for the benefit of the school’s students and alumni. The book can be accessed at: http://comminfo.rutgers.edu/publications/reputation-management/
Prof. Hunt is the founding director of the Retired Faculty Association of Rutgers University, which has more than 200 members. He plans the group’s programs, publishes its bi-monthly newsletter, and handles all membership mailings and e-mail update messages.
