Rutgers Society of Professional Journalists
Mission:
The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) is the largest, most representative and oldest organization of its kind in the field of journalism. SPJ was originally founded in 1909 as a journalism fraternity at De Pauw University in Indiana. However, in order to declassify the organization as a fraternity, a term that implied only male members were allowed to join, the society's name was changed in 1973 from "Sigma Delta Chi" to "Society of Professional Journalists" Now, SPJ is the premier organization for the professional and student journalists.
