In the April 2012 issue of Teacher Librarian: The Journal for School Library Professionals, LIS Associate Professor Dr. Ross J. Todd is named as one of the recipients of the first annual Teacher Librarian Leadership Award.

With this award, Teacher Librarian recognizes visionary leaders of the learning commons concept of school libraries, honoring “individuals who have made a significant contribution to the profession and/or to education while providing visionary leadership in the development of the Learning Commons concept.” Sharing insight into his achievement, Dr. Todd says, ”School libraries today are facing significant challenges, and with these challenges come rich opportunities to play a role in re-imagining and creating a visionary information and knowledge landscape for schools. I am honored to be part of this dialog, and to be able to contribute to the research that underpins this creative process.”
When notifying Dr. Todd of his award, Edward M. Kurdyla, Jr. (Publisher), Teacher Librarian, stated: “We are very pleased that you are among the inaugural winners of the award. Your leadership and vision are important to the success of the profession as we go through some very exciting and daunting times. There are 17 individuals selected for this year's awards. As so many persons contribute to our shared goals and efforts, in many different ways and with many different talents, we concluded it was impossible, and just not sensible, to select a single person or two.
The recipients of the 2012 Teacher Librarian Leadership Awards are: Karen Bonanno, Andrew Churches, Robin Cicchetti, Sydnye Cohen, Valerie Diggs, Vi (Violet) Harada, Lyn Hay, Gwyneth Jones, Carol Koechlin, Sue Kowalski, Michelle Luhtala, Dawn Nelson, Mark Ray, Ross Todd, Joyce Valenza, Linda Waskow, and Tim Wilson. You are in good company.”
