SC&I Alum Diane Kelly Awarded British Computer Society Award 2012

Congratulations to MLIS alumna Diane Kelly, Ph.D., who was selected to receive the 2012 British Computer Society (BCS) Information Retrieval Specialist Group (BCS IRSG) Karen Spärck-Jones Award.

In choosing the Dr. Kelly, the panel recognized her important contributions to the analysis of information-seeking behaviors and to the development of new experimental methods and systems to support information seeking and analysis.

Dr. Kelly said she is grateful for the excellent training, mentoring and support she received (and still receives) from SC&I professors Nick Belkin and Paul Kantor.

“I am extremely honored that this panel of well-established researchers in information retrieval — most of whom are my research heroes — felt that my research contributions were worthy of recognition with this award, which is named for one of the most formidable figures in information retrieval,” said Dr. Kelly.

The award will be presented in Moscow this summer during the 2013 European Conference on Information Retrieval.
