The 2024 Scholarship Luncheon, hosted by SC&I on April 14 at the Rutgers Club, enabled scholarship recipients to meet and express their deep gratitude for the support given to them by the school and donors.

The event, led by Assistant Dean for Development Blain Bradley, recognized the donors’ tremendous impact, noting, “Your contributions have enabled us to provide invaluable opportunities for our students, empowering them to pursue their dreams and positively impact the world.” Scholarship award winners included undergraduate Journalism and Media Studies student Julianna Margolin JMS’24; Master of Communication and Information student Olivia Deehan MCM’24, COMM’22; Master of Information student Layla Abdallah MI’24, LIS’20; and doctoral student Josh Rochotte Ph.D.’27, MI’18, ITI’17.

“It’s a reminder that someone believes in my potential and is willing to invest in my future,” said Olivia Deehan. “With this support, I am empowered to pursue my academic and career goals with great determination and enthusiasm.”

Remarking on how the scholarship contributed to her ability to complete the MI program in a timely manner, Layla Abdallah noted, “I was very fortunate to earn my scholarship opportunity because it boosted my confidence in myself as I was able to achieve and accomplish the success of finishing my degree.”

Reflecting on the day, Dean and Distinguished Professor of Journalism and Media Studies Dafna Lemish said, “The highlight of the event was an uplifting panel with four of our students who talked about the transformative impact that receiving a scholarship made in their lives.” The panel was moderated by Professor of Professional Practice and Director of Undergraduate Studies, Journalism and Media Studies Steven Miller.
