Welcome!

Welcome to the web site of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T). This Web site is intended to serve as an information channel for the New Jersey Chapter of ASIS&T (NJ-ASIS&T) and to facilitate greater public awareness about the goals, structure and activities of our group. Since 1937 ASIS&T has been the society for information professionals leading the search for new theories, techniques, and technologies to improve access to information. The New Jersey Chapter is a two-time winner of the ASIS&T Chapter-of-the-Year Award. The chapter has excellent administration with a full complement of officers.

Welcome from the 2007-2008 Chapter Chair:

Welcome to NJ ASIST!

Currently our web site is undergoing some reconstruction as we rethink how to best reach out to our community and create an interactive space where we can share ideas, plan activities and network. So stay tuned (and if you don’t I’ll reach out to you!) as we begin our transition to NJ ASIST 2.0-style.

For now, I’d like to remind you that we are planning a really special Distinguished Lectureship this year that will run in conjunction with the SCILS 25th Anniversary Celebration. Our award recipient is SCILS’ own Tefko Saracevic who will give a talk entitled “Information Science: Where Does it Come From and Where is it Going?" on October 12th at 4:30 pm at the Heldrich Hotel in New Brunswick. (See our “events” section for more information). Join us for the lecture and the SCILS Alumni Association dinner. It will definitely be a good time to meet new people and catch up with old friends!

In the meantime, consider getting involved with our Chapter. In so many ways this is a very exciting time to get into the organization at a grass roots level. It is an opportunity to be part of a team that will help shape NJ ASIS&T into a dynamic network of people, places and ideas. The effort is not easy but I invite you to take on the challenge!

Sincerely,

Lilia Pavlovsky
