Dissertation Series

Preliminary dissertation proposals and public presentations of completed dissertations are scheduled on select Friday afternoons at 1:30 pm.

All colloquia normally will be held in the Faculty Lounge, followed by a DSA-sponsored social in Huntington House.  Students needing to make presentations of preliminary proposals or of finished dissertations should contact Joan Chabrak to schedule these.

 

Special Colloquium Series

Three evening colloquia featuring program faculty are currently scheduled (details to follow).  These will be interesting discussions of key issues cutting across the areas of the program:

  • Sept 23: BENEFITS AND RISKS OF INTERDISCIPLINARITY
  • Oct. 14: ON "IMPACT"
  • Nov. 4:   DOING ENGAGED SCHOLARSHIP

Students and faculty are also encouraged to attend job talks of applicants for faculty positions and to look for other announcements about speakers coming to campus this fall. Students are strongly encouraged to attend research colloquia on select Wednesday mornings in the School. The Ph.D. program is co-sponsoring these in particular:

  • Nov. 4 10-noon, faculty lounge: Dr. Lucy Montgomery - "China's Creative Industries: Copyright, Social Network Markets and the Business of Cultre in a Digital Age"
  • Nov. 17 6-7:30pm, Faculty Lounge: Dr. Saman Talib - "Resistance 2.0: Mobilizing Social Capital Through Personal Networks in Support of Political Movements"

  

SC&I Honors Day 

TBA - Spring 2010

  

We will end the year with a celebration of the accomplishments of graduate students here in SC&I over the past year, as part of the broader SC&I Honors Day.  An awards ceremony honoring students will be followed by a reception.
