Goalie Making Save

The two pad stack save, or "stacking the pads," has been around a long time and remains a quality technique. Goaltenders generally use this save as a last resort when they are far out of position. The reason it is used in these dire circumstances, is that it is an effecient and quick way to seal off the crucial low area of the net.

To outline the benefits of the two pad stack one can begin with the ease of lateral movement. The goalie begins its execution with a powerful T-Glide. Once down on their side the goalie making the two pad stack save will cover the entire lower part of the net. With their legs stacked tightly and body close to the ice, their is little chance the puck can squeak through.

Use the two pad stack during the following game conditions;
  • Wide lateral plays where the puck is passed across the ice (2 on 1's)
  • Breakaways
  • Deflections very close to the net
