Center for International Scholarship in School Libraries

The Center for International Scholarship in School Librarianship (CISSL) is the leading international research and scholarly center that examines the dynamics and impacts of school libraries on student learning. CISSL fosters the transformative role of school libraries in 21st century schools, their integral role in the learning fabric of schools, and their role in ongoing school improvement and reform.

CISSL is dedicated to assisting state education departments, individual school systems, practitioners and students in achieving their learning and knowledge transformation goals.

CISSL is:

  • a locus of intellectual life and research exploring school libraries,
  • a center for professional development,
  • a resource for school librarians throughout the world, and
  • a key player in the growing global network of scholarship and the practical application of that scholarship to school libraries internationally.

As the Associate Director at CISSL, Dr. Gordon fosters a dynamic, integrated approach to teaching curriculum content, information literacy, and strategies for learning. This group provides the vital tools for administrators and educators to create collaborative environments where students experience school learning and real life meshed in integral ways - learning in the 21st century.   For more information about CISSL, click here.
