State capital nearly moved to Milwaukee

There have been numerous efforts among some legislators throughout Wisconsin's history to move the state capital to Milwaukee, but none came as close to success as the effort during this year. A primary reason to move the capital was the lack of sufficient hotel space in Madison to house legislators and other officials. After a long debate, the bill to relocate the capital was defeated by a vote of 55 to 31.
