Assignment 2: Knowledge Domains and Disciplinary Knowledge (Journals Database) (due: November 8; assignment begins on October 4)

This assignment aims to introduce you to the structuring of knowledge in various subject domains, focusing on scholarly journals in the subject area of your choice. You will conduct an in-depth study of one journal title after you have established its relative impact in a subject area of your choice.

• You will first choose a subject area and determine the relative impact of particular journals in that area according to the instructions discussed in class.
• To identify the journals, you will use tools such as Ulrich's Guide to Periodicals online and type in a subject, or you may identify an alternative source. The ISI Journal Citation Reports (JCR Science Edition , and JCR Social Sciences Edition ) is a tool used for estimating the comparative impact of a journal title in science & technology, and social sciences. Both of these sources are available from the Indexes & Databases portion of IRIS. International Women's Periodicals is a selection of women's journals with international coverage may also lead you to your selections (it is not available any more from the Rutgers Electronic library).
• After you have identified your subject area, and identified the ten journals with highest impact in that area, you will proceed to select a single journal title and research that title.
• You will enter your findings in the online Journals Database specifically developed for this assignment, in the appropriate modules of the assignment listed here.
