MLIS 512 Interface Design - Fall 2011 - Project Part #3: 1st Prototype

Submission
Electronically - eCollege (link) and your website
Objective P3: Develop a low-fidelity prototype

Your Tasks:

Develop the prototype designs. Pay no attention to graphical representation at this point. Address functionality. Use paper (or software that supports sketching if you have a tablet computer or another type of a pen-based interface). This should appear as a work-in-progress and not a final or near-final development. For each supported task, plan for the interaction flow. You should create a storyboard that outlines the flow of interaction in your system. Add any additional comments (in a form of a script) to the design so that the intent behind the design is understood.

Submission:

  • Submit scans or digital photos of your paper prototypes (i.e., your sketches).
    • Keep the prototype version without additional explanations to be used by your evaluators. You will need to provide them with your scenarios that describe what steps are need to be taken to accomplish tasks.
    • Submit to me a version with sufficient annotation/explanations so that I understand what you are proposing.
  • All images should be insterted into a single document, please do not submit image files individually.
  • If applicable, submit revisions to tasks / scenarios.

Assessment criteria - prototyping: you will be getting comments from me and from your classmates (P3e)

  • 10% Approach to prototyping (description)
  • 25% Prototype: prototype complexity
  • 25% Prototype description, annotation, flow
  • 25% Prototype: quality (not visual quality of prototype, but the quality & amount of work)
  • 05% Optional elements (e.g. revised tasks)
  • 10% Overall organization and clarity, etc.

Due dates are posted on the Assignments page
