Mooncake
Of course, the most important and symbolized food for Mid-Autumn Festival is mooncake.( yuebing). Mooncakes are round and sweet-filled, mak\de of flaked pastry. They are about and inch in height inside, and are filled with lotus seeds, red bean paste, orange peel, melon seeds, and salted duck's egg yolks.
Autumn mooncakes were also related to the folk legends, for overthrowing the foreign Mongols of the Yuan dynasty ( 1279-1368). It was the time for Chinese people revolution against Kublai Khan's descendents and people hid the message inside the mooncake to send to friends or relatives at festival time in 1353.This secretly planned action revealed and announced the day of revolution. With everyone informed, the day of revolution finally arrived and the Chinese were able to bring down the Mongolian Empire in 1368.
