Cover templates

Some example pages for covers are on this web page. You can easily edit them to correspond to your book. You need not, of course, have pictures; most books have only words on their covers. But these examples at least have everything in the right place.

If you are planning to print on legal-size (8.5x14) paper, download this file; you can use the color printer (Xerox 8550) in 335, but the page size of your book must not be more than 8.5 inches high.

If you are planning to print the cover on 11x17 stock, download this bigger file. You will have to use the Xerox Docucentre 155 printer in 335, which does not print in color. And for that matter it does b&w in high contrast; don't do something with subtle greys (unless you've figured out how to halftone/dither them). The page size of your book can be up to 11 inches high.

Note that even if you print the cover on 11x17 stock, because of the need for say 1/2 inch on the spine, you can't actually have full 8.5x11 inch pages for the book. Normal procedure is to shrink the pages a little bit by leaving slightly wider right and bottom margins, for example, so that you can trim the page widths to 8.25 inches. If somebody needs a real full-width page, it's possible to buy 12x18 cover stock, trim it to 11x18, and then you can make a slightly wider book.
