for the Science Goes to the Movies Portal of Moving Image Collection (MIC)

The International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) has identified four critical user information needs: Find, Select, Identify and Obtain. Please assist us in determining which directory fields are useful for supporting these core information needs:
1A. FIND A MOVING IMAGE ORGANIZATION -- For Example: You are looking for a television museum in Connecticut. You may search on the keyword "television" limited by organization type ("museum") and organization state/region ("Connecticut")

USE: These fields will be used as search criteria to search the directory database to find moving image organizations.

1B. FIND A Moving Image Collection -- For Example: You are looking for films on the explosion of the Krakatoa volcano. You can limit your search to organizations that collect films and/or limit your search to organizations that collect science or history materials.

USE: These fields will be used in a collection search, to pre-select collections in the union catalog to search, in order to discover individual resources that meet the user's need.

2. SELECT – Confirm that the record describes the organization most appropriate to the user’s needs based on conformance to important criteria for comparing one organization to others retrieved in a search.

USE: These fields will display in the short listing that displays when multiple records result from a search. These fields will enable the user to quickly select the most useful records among multiple records retrieved in a search

3. IDENTIFY - Confirm that the records retrieved correspond to the search criteria. The fields used to identify an organization should provide enough information in the record to correctly identify the organization and insure that the record meets the user's information need.

USE: These fields will display in the full record retrieved via a search. The full record is displayed as an organization web page. The most useful fields will display at the top level. Less useful fields will require a single click to access the information
