Welcome to my home page!!! My name is Mi-Sun Lyu, and I am currently in the Mater's program in Library and Information Science at the School of Communication, Information and Library Science, Rutgers University. I'm
an International student from Seoul, Korea. I was born in Busan,
which faces the South Sea in Korea, and I grew up there until I graduate
from high school. In 1988, I entered the Hankunk University of Foreign
Studies in Seoul as a scholarship student to major in Politics,
and I've been living by myself since then. My father, who has a deep knowledge
of Oriental Philosophy, influenced me to acquire and indulgence in reading
a large number of books, and I yearned for the great philosophers who
had left their great achievements in human history. It made me major in
Politics. My college year, marked by pro-democracy struggles, brought
a strong belief that I had to do something for my country. I was a member
of HUFS Rotaract Club that is service club consisting of students and
the only girl member of the amateur basketball team in my college.
To tell you the truth, my main duty was being water-boy, and I never played
in an official game. However, I never missed my team practice, and did
my obligation with a sense of responsibility for my team. |

While I was in college, starting in the early of the 1990s, the shock of the Internet stormed the campus. I thought that I would get the strongest competitive power if I learned how to manage computer technology. After college, I worked about for six years in Korea, and it was the most valuable years in my life I spent most of my twenties. However, I decided to study again in order to be a more capable and mature professional. And finally I started my master's program at the School of Communication, Information and Library Studies of Rutgers University, beginning January, 2001. My focus on studying is to learn how to determine information needs, design appropriate information systems, manage those systems, and measure the system's performance. The emphasis is on the users of computers, and on building professional-level information system skills. And I think my experience and knowledge from being a Political Science major and my job is significantly helping me in studying the new field, Information Science, in many ways. My plan for the future is to be an information professional. For the time being I'm going to complete my master's program, and then hope to find a position in information systems marketing industry. Eventually I have been to challenge myself in a new field in the US, stepping on several difficulties, and will continue to pursuit my dream and contribute something to the community and my country. |
