Established in 1971 as an affiliate of ALA, goals include: development of Spanish-language and Latino-oriented library collections; recruitment of bilingual, bicultural personnel; Latino public awareness of available library services and collections; advocacy on behalf of the information needs of the Latino community; staff training and development in serving the Latino community; liaison to other professional organizations. Publishes newsletter, maintains a listserv and web page, presents programs and conferences, and offers scholarships, awards.
