Toolkit

This document will evolve into a listing of various tools which you will find useful when working on assignments during this fall term. During this term I will continue to post new tools available to you in this listing. I will inform you via our class mailing list, dynabook, each time I have added a new tool. In each new listing, I will note the name of the tool, what it does, a pathname from within my file system from where you may copy the tool into your file system, and where to copy the file along with any other necessary actions to be performed after you finished the copy action.

JEDI Toolkit

• bin: This is not a tool. This is a place in your file system, called a bin directory, where you keep your tools.
  WHAT TO DO: cd(cr) and then mkdir bin(cr).
• pc2unix: This tool removes all ^M and ^Z characters from a text file created on a Windows PC and copied onto a UNIX machine.
  LOCATION: ~riecken/JEDI_TOOLKIT/pc2unix
  WHAT TO DO: copy pc2unix to your $HOME/bin
• myProfile: This is a copy of my UNIX .profile which helps to set up my UNIX Environment each time I login.
  LOCATION: ~riecken/JEDI_TOOLKIT
  WHAT TO DO: copy myProfile to your $HOME and then rename the filename from myProfile to .profile
