Description:
This course studies the critical techniques for the design of experiments and the evaluation of the resulting behavioral data for interaction design. The goal is to develop a broad understanding of the experiment choices one can make, the consequences of those choices, quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods for detecting inappropriate choices and making better choices, and interpretation of results including any limitations placed on the conclusions. At the end, students are expected to carry out their own human-centered research experiment and evaluation for interaction design, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Analyze, identify, and describe the information needs, problems, challenges, and goals of individuals, groups, communities, and organizations;
- Design, develop, and implement innovative and interactive information systems, services, technologies, instruction, policies and organizational structures that address identified needs, problems, challenges and goals;
- Use measurable criteria to evaluate effectiveness of systems, programs, and services.
