Cheryl Klimaszewski studies various kinds of personal, self-made and self-designated museums to understand how the museum is evolving as a cultural form as so-called amateurs engage with processes of museum-making both within and outside of institutional museums. Her dissertation focused on Romanian vernacular museums as spaces of knowledge-making. She has worked with digital collections and digital humanities initiatives in academic and library settings in and around Philadelphia. She is also interested in how museums, archives and libraries deal with problems and issues around cultural heritage, particularly at the grassroots level as participatory culture and cultural activism. She currently works as a metadata consultant to various arts organizations, including cataloging murals and public art projects for Mural Arts Philadelphia.
