Faculty and Students Participated in the 7th Biennial D.C. Health Communication Conference

SC&I faculty members and student scholars participated in the 7th biennial D.C. Health Communication Conference (DCHC), sponsored by George Mason University’s Department of Communication and Center for Health and Risk Communication. Held April 27-29, DCHC celebrated its 11th anniversary this year with the theme “Health Communication for a Changing World.”

Melissa Aronczyk Elected Director of the Ph.D. Program at SC&I

An Associate Professor of Journalism and Media Studies, Aronczyk’s research and teaching address issues related to media and political communication; media theory; critical methodologies; promotional cultures; and writing as craft and as profession.

Faculty and Students to Attend Eastern Communication Association Conference in Baltimore

Faculty and students from SC&I's Communication Department will attend the 114th Eastern Communication Association (ECA) conference at the Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland, from March 29–April 2. The ECA is a professional organization of scholars, teachers, and Communication Studies students. Initially established in 1910, it continues as the oldest professional communication association in the United States.

Is Journalism Living Up to Its Responsibility?

Christoph Mergerson Ph.D. ‘22, an assistant professor at the University of Maryland, explores the impact of the news media in the South. “If journalism is . . . poorly serving, or excluding, or even harming Black, Latino, LGBTQ, and other historically neglected communities—then that isn’t good if we value social equity and democracy,” Mergerson said.
