Cindy Lu studies the complex information practices of the informal Christian communities in contemporary China, particularly how the specific context of information poverty in these communities impact the members’ use and production of religious information across national borders. She believes that human beings are creative in adopting tactics in everyday life to resist the strategies imposed on them by the powerful socio-cultural forces.

Another of her interests concerns how international Christian communities use technology to dialogue and to overcome information inequality. Cindy Lu has published more than 10 articles and book chapters, and she has been invited to speak on related issues in Taiwan, Singapore, Italy, and France.
