Fredrika Thelandersson is a Ph.D. Candidate in Media Studies at Rutgers University. Her research is situated in the fields of Media, Culture, Gender, and Affect studies, with particular focus on sad affects in popular culture and on social media. She is particularly interested in how changing attitudes towards mental illness in Western media correspond to the socioeconomic and cultural landscape of post-recessionary precarity and risk. Her work has been published in Feminist Media Studies and Capacious: Journal for Emerging Affect Inquiry.
During the 2019-2020 academic year, she is supported by an American Fellowship from the AAUW.
