Description:
This course investigates the relationship between the construction of gender and technologies of digital media. Students will engage with theories of new media, as well as critical intersectional scholarship on gender, race, sexuality, and ability. Central to the course are questions of materiality and embodiment in the digital age; the impact of digital interactivity on the construction and production of gender, race, and sexuality; and the digital distribution of power relations, discipline, and surveillance. While this course does not focus on the acquisition of technical skills for the making and curation of digital media, students will complete a digital media project developed over a large portion of the semester. (Course offered by the Women's and Gender Studies Department.)
