School of Communication and Information (SC&I) students can contact SC&I career services for information on seeking internships or careers.

Students can locate SC&I job listings related to communication, information, informatics, journalism, media, or libraries via Handshake Internship and Jobs

  • Handshake is an online career management system developed specifically for Rutgers students, alumni, and employers. All students automatically have a Handshake account. Handshake allows employers and students to connect for jobs and internships while also providing a platform to help students navigate each and every step of your career development plan. A full guide to the Handshake system is available on the University Career Services site. 
  • University Career Services is committed to assisting students with making connections between their academic experience and career paths. We provide career-related counseling, resources, and programs to help individuals clarify academic and career goals, establish career plans, develop job-search skills, and make successful career transitions.

 

Internship Programs

  • Communication Undergraduate Internship Program offers information on how to identify internship options and find the right internship; receive credit while interning with a company or organization; manage a workload as a student and intern.
  • The ITI Internship is approximately 150 hours of workplace employment that represents a significant learning opportunity for the student. 
  • A JMS Internship is a highly recommended capstone experience for majors. Our students pursue placements in major media outlets throughout the New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia markets. 
  • The strategic location of the MCM program within the research corridors of Northern and Central New Jersey, and near the greater metropolitan areas of New York City and Philadelphia, provide unparalleled opportunities within multiple industries.
  • The MI program prepares students for a range of career trajectories. The program offers five concentrations that help students focus on career goals, including Library and Information Science, Archives and Presentation, Data Science, Informatics and Design, and Technology, Information and Management. The MI program also offers students a concentration with an opportunity to create their own pathway.
