The faculty of the Rutgers Department of Journalism and Media Studies most strongly condemns the arrest on June 1 of Asbury Park Press (APP) reporter Gustavo Martínez Contreras while covering protests in Asbury Park against police brutality. Contreras was shooting video of the protests when he was taken into custody.

George Floyd. We are writing to make clear that, as a community, we stand together in pain, rage, and solidarity against the everyday violence that threatens Black people living in the United States.

The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) has awarded Kumar for her “vision, courage, and role in developing and leading a contract campaign that that culminated in a strike vote and a groundbreaking contract for Rutgers faculty.”
