December 2, Rutgers Global Journalism in Bologna, Italy: story brainstorming session

JMSAs JMS prepares to blast off on its June 2022 Italian reporting project, please join Italy program director and professor, Mary D’Ambrosio, for a story brainstorming session.

We’ll help you dream up a story you'd like to cover and to develop a reporting plan.

Students in past years have covered Italy’s “fight the right” protest movement; have interviewed migrants arriving from the Middle East and Africa, and have documented the expansion of Bologna’s groundbreaking LGBT and women’s rights initiatives. They’ve also written about the city's vibrant street art, music, and food scenes.

Potential stories for this year: a look at how Italians are coping with COVID; Bologna as a rising center for digital nomadism; and Italy’s new initiatives to resettle Afghan refugees, among them the "Afghan girl” made globally famous by a controversial National Geographic photograph.

You can see photos, videos, and stories from our past Italian projects here, and learn more about how to apply here

Whether you’ve been accepted into the 2022 program, or are still thinking about applying, you are welcome to join us at this week’s session!
