Nayana Kirasur is a researcher from India looking to understand how the social, political, and cultural spheres of our society intersect with digital technologies. She braids theoretical concepts and methods (primarily qualitative) across multiple disciplines including information studies, communication and media studies, sociology, and cultural studies. Her current work focuses on understanding how the internet – particularly the social media platforms – construct and reify social categories of caste and gender in India.

Her previous research projects have delved into themes such as gender-based exclusions from digital infrastructures, digitalization of governance in India, caste in private schools and curricula, and information and communication practices in rural India.
