The school is saddened to share the news that SC&I doctoral student Stacy Welk passed away on Sunday Nov. 7th. Stacy joined the SC&I doctoral program in August 2021 when she moved to New Jersey from her home in Dallas, TX where she spent most of her life.

Stacy's research goal was to focus on corporate social responsibility and health inequities in vulnerable communities. She was beginning her doctoral journey, engaging with her courses, a research project, and assisting with teaching. Director of the Ph.D. Program and Professor of Communication Jennifer Theiss said, "We were getting to know her as she embarked on this exciting new path in her life. Stacy had experiences in multiple businesses, including founding and leading Welk Associates for the past ten years but also leading non-profit organizations in Texas prior to entering the doctoral program."

Stacy had a passion for engaging with underserved communities was long-standing, apparent to those who knew her, and a significant part of our Rutgers community. "She will missed deeply, her contributions to our program, and the great perspective she brought," Theiss said.

Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends. Please keep them in your thoughts. She is being transported to Texas where services are still being planned.
