Pursuing A Career in Technology, Media, and Creative Storytelling, Alumna Esha Verma said SC&I Taught Her “Networking, Communication, and Adaptability”

After graduating from SC&I in 2021 with a major in Information Technology and Informatics (ITI) and a minor in Digital Communication, Information, and Media (DCIM), Esha Verma sought out a career that would combine her love for technology, media, and creative storytelling.

Working as a creative and technical strategist, Verma’s experience enabled her to transition into her current role as a Digital Marketing Coordinator at Toll Brothers.

Reflecting on her time as a DCIM minor alongside her ITI major, Verma said, “this combination has been invaluable - it gave me the skills to bridge technology and creativity, making me a well-rounded candidate for tech, marketing, UX/UI design, and digital media roles.”

In our interview, Verma discusses her career trajectory thus far in the digital marketing field, what she values about her time at SC&I, and advice she would give SC&I students who wish to pursue a career that combines technology with creativity.

SC&I: Tell us about yourself and what you’re currently doing.
EV: I am a creative and technical strategist. I started my career as a Technology Architecture Delivery Analyst at Accenture. After that, I pivoted into a Digital Marketing Coordinator role at Toll Brothers.

I minored in Digital Communication, Information, and Media (DCIM), and it was one of the best decisions I made. While my Information Technology and Informatics  (ITI) major gave me a strong technical foundation, DCIM allowed me to explore my creative side and understand digital marketing, branding, and media strategy.

I’m continuing to transition into media-focused roles, leveraging my technical expertise while exploring opportunities in UX/UI design, branding, and digital storytelling. My ultimate goal is to merge technology with creativity.

SC&I: What was it like to work as a technology architecture delivery analyst? What is rewarding about this line of work, and what aspects challenge you?
EV: Working as a Technology Architecture Delivery Analyst at Accenture was an incredible experience. The role was fast-paced, dynamic, and deeply rewarding, allowing me to work with global clients, diverse industries, and cutting-edge technology solutions. The most rewarding aspect was networking, building connections, and continuously learning from colleagues, clients, or new projects.

One of the main challenges was navigating the changes in project alignments. The experience taught me to be adaptable, take initiative, and find opportunities that align with my strengths.

SC&I: What has pivoting to a digital marketing coordinator role been like? Please describe the work you do in this role.
EV: Transitioning from a tech-heavy role at Accenture to a Digital Marketing Coordinator at Toll Brothers was a strategic step to merge my technical background with my creative interests. In this role, I focus on website control management, quality assurance, and marketing and branding strategies.

This role helped me refine my UX/UI skills, branding expertise, and ability to work in a creative digital environment. While it was a stepping stone, my long-term goal is to transition into senior-level creative roles like art direction, visual design, and media strategy.Esha Verma

SC&I: How has SC&I prepared you for the everyday challenges of your work today? Was there any notable advice you were given that you would like to share?
EV:
SC&I prepared me in many ways—especially in networking, communication, and adaptability. One of the best pieces of advice I received was:

“Even if you’re not 100% confident, present yourself like you are.”

This stuck with me because presentation and communication skills are just as important as technical skills. SC&I emphasized collaboration, leadership, and digital literacy, which have been crucial in my career.

One concept that resonated with me was “disruptive change”—the idea that technology constantly evolves and shapes industries. SC&I helped me understand how to innovate and stay ahead in an ever-changing digital landscape.

SC&I: What about your time at SC&I do you reflect on most fondly?
EV:
I truly enjoyed the engaging classes, hands-on projects, and strong sense of community at SC&I. Some of my fondest memories include group projects and networking and mentorship with professors and industry professionals.

One key takeaway was the importance of accessibility in digital design. It’s essential to consider diverse users, including those with disabilities. This awareness has shaped my professional approach to design and user experience.

SC&I: How has the DCIM Minor benefitted you career-wise?
EV:
I minored in Digital Communication, Information, and Media (DCIM), and it was one of the best decisions I made. While my Information Technology & Informatics (ITI) major gave me a strong technical foundation, DCIM allowed me to explore my creative side and understand digital marketing, branding, and media strategy. This combination has been invaluable—it gave me the skills to bridge technology and creativity, making me a well-rounded candidate for tech, marketing, UX/UI design, and digital media roles.

SC&I: What advice would you give SC&I students pursuing digital marketing and project management?
EV:
My biggest advice for current students is to take full advantage of every resource available—networking events, mentorship programs, company visits, or career services. Meet professionals when they come to campus, engage with your professors, and build meaningful connections—you never know where those relationships might lead. Don’t be afraid to ask for help; some of the best opportunities come from simply putting yourself out there and being open to learning.
