Yunhee Shim's major research interests are platform governance, content moderation, and fairness, which fall within the fields of social computing and HCI. Her primary research interests focus on online harm in platforms, particularly interpersonal harm, and strategies to mitigate it through moderation features. She is also interested in moderation features themselves, such as reporting and personal moderation, and how their affordances influence users’ perceptions, behaviors, and discourse formation in online environments. Additionally, based on her prior experience as a librarian, she is interested in the digital environment in libraries. How the digital environment will change library services, users’ experiences, and the future of digital library platform governance is another area of her research.
