Corporate Librarianship in Motion: An Interview with Beth Middleton Rizzotti MLS, ‘91

Beth Rizzotti earned her Master of Library Science at SC&I in 1991. While a graduate student, she took an internship that developed into a full-time position which in turn led to a decades-long career with her current employer, Lee Hecht Harrison (LHH). Having this experience prompts Beth to advise students to start networking from their very first day at SC&I.

Department of Journalism and Media Studies Part-Time Lecturer Karyn Collins, director of the Hugh N. Boyd Journalism Diversity Workshop, died Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Collins, a veteran journalist, had been a part-time lecturer for JMS since 2015. She taught Writing for the Media, a course that introduces both JMS majors and students from across the university to the basics of media writing, and the department’s popular Fashion Journalism course, which she developed.

Two SC&I Researchers Named Recipients of ASIS&T’s SIG USE Early Career Best Paper Award

SC&I faculty member Kaitlin Costello and Ph.D. student Diana Floegel have received the award for their paper examining how people diagnosed with mental health conditions feel about the mental health apps they use, and the critical privacy, ethics, and justice issues surrounding their use.

Fulfilling our Mission during the 2020 Pandemic

All of us can be incredibly proud of the response and performance of the School of Communication and Information over the past seven months during the coronavirus pandemic.

With very little notice last spring, our full- and part-time faculty and teaching assistants transitioned campus classes to remote learning and our staff redesigned all operations to work remotely. In every area of the school people demonstrated tremendous dedication and creativity to assure the teaching, research, and work of the school would continue as smoothly as possible.

The School of Communication & Information invites applications for our Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Communication, Information, and Media. The application deadline for the fall 2021 term is January 5, 2021, with late applications to be considered at a May 1, 2021 deadline. Students requesting financial aid must apply by January 5, 2021.
