February 9, Diversity Book Club, "The Feeling of Being Watched"

Deepa Kumar will lead a discussion on the documentary "The Feeling of Being Watched" (available free online at Alexander library).

In this documentary investigative journalist, Assia Boundaoui shows what it is like to be the target of FBI surveillance through a program known as "Operation Vulgar Betrayal." This is just one of many ways in which Muslim Americans are created as a suspect population by the national security apparatus. Deepa Kumar will lead a discussion of how Muslims have been produced as a racialized group. She will outline how races don't exist but are made through structural forms of discrimination.

The event is private to the SC&I community.
