November 25, Diversity Book Club

The second book is Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng, a novel about a biracial family and the assimilation of citizens of Chinese origins in our society. The discussion will be led by Amy Jordan (this is the book discussion we postponed from last April).

Celeste Ng’s book “Everything I Never Told You” is about a Chinese American family struggling with its identity.  Each member of the family feels like an outsider in their own way, and each deals in isolation with the cultural and gender stereotypes that are thrust upon them. The story is told from the perspective of a teenage girl named Lydia, who in the opening pages, we learn is dead, but her family has yet to discover her body.  Uncovering the mystery of her death allows the reader to witness the ways in which children and adolescents absorb the stresses of their parents’ uncertainties of who they are and how they fit in.

Please RSVP with Nella Gonzalez nella.gonzalez@rutgers.edu to receive a secured zoom link,

The event is private to our SC&I community.
