Information on Refunds for Student Housing, Meals, and Parking

Student Accounting, Billing and Cashier Services (Student ABC) is committed to supporting students during the current situation.

Student ABC will take the following steps in the coming weeks:

  • Housing, dining and parking charges will be credited to each eligible student’s account. The refunds will be calculated on a prorated basis beginning on March 23, the first day following Spring Break, and ending on May 16, the required move-out date at the University. We encourage students to set up direct deposit to receive their refunds faster and more securely.
  • Financial holds that block registration will not be placed on student accounts that have past due balances. We sympathize with families and understand the financial hardships that many families are facing during this difficult time, as well as the expectation that students focus on their academic work.

The Student ABC staff is available to answer any questions or concerns through our online portal or you may call us at (848) 932-2254.

Read the full message from March 26.

FREE WIFI and BROADBAND ACCESS

As we prepare for remote teaching and learning, you may be concerned about WiFi and broadband access. Many major U.S. Internet Service Providers are now offering these and other services to help people stay connected during this challenging time.

Attached is a PDF that outlines the options provided by these companies - ones might be useful as you get ready to return to your remote classes next week.

For students who do not have access to the internet or the technology required for remote learning, the Office of the Dean of Students may be able to help. Please contact them for more information and assistance at: deanofstudents@echo.rutgers.edu

STUDENTS TIPS FOR REMOTE LEARNING

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS INFORMATION

Dear Students,

On March 17, 2020, President Barchi announced that Rutgers University will continue to offer remote instruction through the end of the spring semester. In light of this announcement, we have updated our FAQs and answers for international students in F-1 and J-1 visa status.

Updated FAQs for International Students on F-1 and J-1 Visas Re: COVID-19

The main change is as follows:

International students in F-1 and J-1 status can complete their spring semesters via remote instruction offered by the university and maintain their legal status, as long as they continue to remain enrolled in a full course of study and make normal progress towards their degree, unless they qualify for a reduced credit/course load based on permissible exceptions.

This policy update is based on the following information:

  • President Barchi’s announcement on March 17, 2020.
  • Official guidance from the government that allows schools to temporarily adapt their policies and procedures in certain respects related to remote instruction to address issues associated with COVID-19.

Based on your specific circumstances, students who leave the U.S. should consider future implications, such as potential difficulties with visa renewals when returning to the U.S. and travel restrictions. The Rutgers Global ISSS Office can help to advise students on a case by case basis. Please review the detailed FAQs and answers for more information.

Note for Students with Housing Contracts On-Campus: If you are returning home for the spring semester, and will not be able to return to empty out your on-campus residence by April 30, please vacate your space, move-out completely and return your keys before you leave. For more information about move-out procedures, timelines and information from the Office of Residence Life, please visit: http://ruoncampus.rutgers.edu/residence-life-operation-status/
For the latest information about the university’s response to COVID-19, please monitor the site: https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/. We recognize that making decisions in this current environment of uncertainly can be stressful and challenging. Please be assured that we are committed to supporting our international student community in the best way possible through this crisis. If you have any other questions and concerns, email ISSS at isss-students@global.rutgers.edu.
