Providing empathic communication is a key component to reducing the uncertainty cancer patients may feel about their diagnosis and treatment, and thus providers play a key role in helping to facilitate psychological well-being in their patients.

The study’s findings, the authors said, are directly applicable as targets for communication training modules for health care providers, because by continuing to advance skills in empathic communication, clinicians can enhance the healthcare experiences of their patients.

Alyssa Pernice MCM’23 is an account supervisor at BCW, a multinational public relations and communications firm headquartered in New York City. She recently fulfilled her long-time goal of obtaining a master’s degree by completing the Master of Communication and Media (MCM) program at Rutgers School of Communication and Information.

A research team led by Professor Itzhak Yanovitzky and Associate Professor of Communication Matthew Weber used a variety of recruitment methods to test their ability to encourage policy makers and advocates to download policy briefs.

Rutgers University advanced significantly in the U.S. News & World Report college rankings, with Rutgers-New Brunswick ranked as the #15 top public university in the nation this year and all three of the university’s locations in Newark, Camden and New Brunswick among the top 100 national universities for the first time in the ranking’s 40-year history.
