Faculty, students, and alumni from SC&I’s Library and Information Science (LIS) Department will attend the annual New Jersey Librarian Association (NJLA) Conference, the premier professional development event for the state’s library community. This year’s conference will be held May 31 – June 1 at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City.

LIS Faculty at NJLA ConferenceThe NJLA Conference features special events, vendor meetings, and poster sessions and this year’s theme is “Sustainably Forward.” Rutgers SC&I is proud to once again be a Platinum Strategic Partner. Associate Teaching Professor of Library and Information Science Joyce Valenza, Leslin Charles, Instructional Design Librarian at Rutgers University Libraries, and eight other colleagues have been awarded the 2023 Research Award for their article, "First years’ information literacy backpacks: What’s already packed or not packed?," published in The Journal of Academic Librarianship. As the Research Award winners, they will present their work at Onward and Upward! Forum for the Technology Innovation and Research Awards. Other SC&I presenters include students Kate Mathe and Grace McKenna.

NJLA, the state’s oldest and largest library organization, advocates for the advancement of library services, provides continuing education and networking opportunities for librarians and supports the principles of intellectual freedom and access to library materials for all.
