M.J. Salas is a Ph.D. student in Communication at Rutgers University’s School of Communication and Information. Their research interests reside at the intersection of health and critical, interpersonal communication with a focus on identity. Using mixed-methods and interdisciplinary approaches, Salas seeks to answer research questions about the health and healthcare experiences of racial, ethnic, sexual, and gender minorities, namely Queer, Transgender, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (QTBIPOC). They are motivated to reduce health disparities via community-engaged, culturally-tailored health intervention to affect positive change for QTBIPOC populations and their health.
