Yingchun Xu is a Ph.D. student in Media Studies. After exploring a wide range of disciplines in theories and being engaged in media related work such as local TV, NGOs, and universities, her research focuses on media and rural construction movement. Based on hybrid methods including anthropological field observation, semiotics analysis and archival research, she studies the Hani case of China's ethnic minority “cultural root seeking” movement and investigates the representation and effectiveness of new media in cultural root seeking / rural construction movement.
