Welcome to the first installment of our newest feature: Why I Support SC&I. As you know, gifts to SC&I support our students, drive research discoveries, and bring ideas to life. Interestingly, there are almost as many reasons why our donors choose to support Rutgers as there are donors, and we want to share these inspirational stories with you.
While at Rutgers, Gbadamosi belonged to TWESE, the Organization for African Students and Friends of Africa at Rutgers, the ITI Council, and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Through his coursework at SC&I, he discovered that the ITI field enabled him to combine his love of technology with his people skills. Here he shares some of the wisdom he has learned along the way.
Rutgers was a good fit for Josh Rochotte, and SC&I is proud to claim him as a double alumnus. After majoring in Information Technology and Information (ITI) and Psychology, Josh completed a Master of Information (MI) degree in 2018.
“It’s all about the ABCDs of remote learning: Assistance, Broadband Connectivity, and Devices,” said Katz, who conducts research with children growing up in low-income, working class and immigrant families and how they learn about and with new technology. “Students need all of those bases covered for distance learning to work.”
A SC&I research team led by Assistant Professor Sunyoung Kim is working with the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey to develop a patient portal for leukemia patients. The system will enable clinicians to communicate treatment scenarios and outcomes to their patients in a less stressful way, and it will enable patients to investigate information about their illness autonomously.
Chris Doris is an IT professional with a product management and governance background who currently works for a major financial services firm. He graduated from Rutgers with a BA in Information Technology and Informatics (ITI) in 2003 and will complete his Master of Information (MI) in January 2021.
A team of Rutgers professors develop COVIDNearby app to help monitor the spread of coronavirus. The app will also provide researchers with insights about the privacy preferences of individuals during health emergencies.
Greer’s scholarship profoundly impacted the field of library and information science. In a Q&A with SC&I Professor Emeritus Dan O’Connor, one of Greer’s students and a lifelong colleague, SC&I explores Greer’s years at Rutgers and how Rutgers was instrumental in pioneering his work and teaching.
As a ’94 Rutgers JMS alumna, Heather O’Rourke speaks about her life after graduating from SC&I, how her Rutgers education helped her get to where she is today, and advice for current students.
We have witnessed the range of anti-Black violence that have filled our screens over the last few weeks. Ahmaud Arbery. Breonna Taylor. George Floyd. We are writing to make clear that, as a community, we stand together in pain, rage, and solidarity against the everyday violence that threatens Black people living in the United States.
