Zack Morrison ’14 Wins Best Comedy Series at the 39th College Television Awards for “Everything’s Fine: A Panic Attack in D Major”

Morrison, who submitted Everything’s Fine as his master’s thesis at Columbia, was already an award-winning filmmaker while he was an undergraduate at Rutgers majoring in Journalism and Media Studies at SC&I. Read about the latest award he has received, for his comedy portraying a young woman’s anxiety through song and dance.

SC&I Faculty Members Receive Award at this Year's National Communication Association Convention

Brent Ruben, Executive Director of the Rutgers Center for Organizational Leadership (OL) and Distinguished Professor of Communication in SC&I; Ralph Gigliotti, Director of Leadership Development and Research in OL and Part-time Faculty Member in SC&I; and Richard De Lisi, Senior Fellow in OL and University Professor, received the 2018 Sue DeWine Distinguished Scholarly Book Award for their work on “A Guide for Leaders in Higher Education: Core Concepts, Competencies, and Tools” (Stylus Publishing).

SC&I faculty and Student Research Presentations are well represented at the 68th Annual ICA Conference in Prague, Czech Republic in late May.  Please see the ICA program schedule for complete details.

The Department of Communication and Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Rutgers University, will also be hosting a reception on Friday, May 25 from 8 -9:30 p.m. at the Hilton Prague, Chez Louis Salon, Mezzaine Level.  All are invited to attend.

Professor Kathryn Greene and REAL Prevention Receive Grant for Phase II of “Interactive Technology for Media Literacy Drug Prevention in Community Groups”
Date: June 6, 2017

The School of Communication and Information (SC&I), Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is proud to announce the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) funding award for Phase II of the project “Interactive Technology for Media Literacy Drug Prevention in Community Groups.” Principal Investigators Michael L. Hecht, REAL Prevention, and Kathryn Greene, professor of Communication at SC&I, were awarded over $1.4 million by the National Institute of Health (NIH) for their research.

Why Leadership Outweighs an Interdisciplinary Mix in the Effectiveness of a Research Team
Date: October 16, 2024

“Leadership matters,” said Ralph Gigliotti, one of the study's lead authors and an affiliate professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. “Leaders play a critical role in the enthusiasm level of working group members and influence their interest in wanting to continue with a project of this kind.”

The study, by SC&I Lecturer Ralph Gigliotti, which appeared in the Journal of Clinical and Translational Science, analyzed 10 interdisciplinary working groups with a total of 105 members that developed protocols for the New Jersey Kids Study.

The SC&I Scholarly Futures Program: Exploring the Intersection of Data Science, Health Communication, and Health Equity

Playing in and Reporting on Big Ten Sports: Meet Ellie Riegner JMS’24
Date: October 13, 2023

Riegner, who is majoring in Journalism and Media Studies, is also playing on the Rutgers women’s lacrosse team and interning at NBC Sports where she is working with NBC Sports reporter and SC&I alumna Kathryn Tappen JMS’03. “The best and most unique part about my job is that it shows me firsthand what I hope to be doing moving forward, and it allows me to see the industry front and center. While I always thought this was what I wanted to do for my career, now I know for sure,” Riegner said.

Riegner, a member of the Rutgers women’s lacrosse team, is currently interning at NBC Sports where she is working with NBC Sports reporter and SC&I alumna Kathryn Tappen JMS’03.
