JMS majors intern for major media outlets and niche media in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

You can focus on specific types of media, gain dedicated skills, and extend the value of your degree by participating in one of the JMS major’s specializations: Global Media, Sports Journalism.

Within the Journalism and Media Studies major, students must pursue one of three pathways: Creative Media Practice, Journalism and Emerging Media, Media and Society.

The JMS program consists of 33 credits for the major plus an interdisciplinary requirement for all SC&I majors.

Admission to the JMS program is selective. Before you can apply to the JMS major, you must first meet these requirements.

Our graduates launch careers in television news, digital news, public relations, marketing, business, publishing and politics.

Rutgers SC&I ITI majors who have completed 90 credits may apply to earn an ITI bachelor’s degree and Master of Information (MI) degree in five years of continuous study.

ITI Independent Study provides the framework for you to design, negotiate and manage a learning program of approximately 150 hours based on your experience, knowledge and work intentions.
